WH Question Test 2

WH Question Test 2

Understanding WH Questions

WH Questions are used to gather information. Unlike yes/no questions, which only require a simple "yes" or "no," WH questions need more detailed answers.

These questions start with one of the following words: What, When, Where, Who, Why, Which, Whose, and How.

Let's break down each WH question word with examples and their uses.

1. What (શું)

Usage: To ask about something or for information.

Example:

What is your name?

What are you doing?

2. When (ક્યારે)

Usage: To ask about time.

Example:

When will you come?

When is your birthday?

3. Where (ક્યાં)

Usage: To ask about a place or location.

Example:

Where do you live?

Where is my book?

4. Who (કોણ)

Usage: To ask about a person.

Example:

Who is your teacher?

Who is calling you?

Usage: To ask for a reason or explanation.

Example:

Why are you late?

Why is she crying?

Usage: To ask for a choice or preference.

Example:

Which book do you like?

Which is your favorite color?

7. Whose (કોનું)

Usage: To ask about ownership or possession.

Example:

Whose pen is this?

Whose house is that?

Usage: To ask about manner, method, or degree.

Example:

How are you?

How does this work?

Tips for Students:

1. Always pay attention to the WH word in the question. It will help you understand what type of information is being asked for.

2. Remember that WH questions can be answered in full sentences to provide more detailed responses.

Example:

Question: Where do you live?

Answer: I live in Palanpur.

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

1. Incorrect Word Order:

Don’t forget that in English, the subject generally comes after the WH question word.

Wrong: What you are doing?

Correct: What are you doing?

2. Confusion Between Who and Whom:

Who is used as a subject.

Whom is used as an object.

Example: Who is calling you? (Subject)

Whom did you call? (Object)

I hope this explanation of WH questions will help you to understand their use better. Practice answering and forming WH questions to improve your English communication skills.
