Active and Passive Voice in Simple Present Tense

Active Voice અને Passive Voice શું છે?

English Grammar માં, Active Voice માં subject action કરે છે, જ્યારે Passive Voice માં action પર focus કરવામાં આવે છે અને subject optional હોય છે. Simple Present Tense માં આ વિધાનને સમજવા માટે અહીં સંપૂર્ણ સમજણ આપી છે.

Structure of Sentences

Active Voice:

Subject + Verb (base form / base+s/es) + Object

👉Example:

• He writes a letter.
  (તે પત્ર લખે છે.)

Passive Voice:

Object + is/am/are + Past Participle (3rd form of verb) + by + Subject (optional)

👉Example:

• A letter is written by him.
  (પત્ર તેની દ્વારા લખવામાં આવે છે.)

Rules for Conversion

1. Active Voice માં Subject ને Passive Voice ના Object તરીકે મુકવું.                                            
2. Helping Verb 'is/am/are' નો ઉપયોગ કરવો.        
3. Verb નો 3rd form ઉપયોગ કરવો (Past Participle).                                                        
4. ‘by’ નો ઉપયોગ કરીને Subject મૂકવું (જો જરૂરી હોય તો).

👉Examples

Affirmative Sentences

Active Voice:
The teacher teaches English.
(શિક્ષક અંગ્રેજી શીખવે છે.)

Passive Voice:
English is taught by the teacher.
(અંગ્રેજી શિક્ષક દ્વારા શીખવવામાં આવે છે.)

Active Voice:
She bakes cakes.
(તે કેક બેક કરે છે.)

Passive Voice:
Cakes are baked by her.
(કેક તેના દ્વારા બેક કરવામાં આવે છે.)

Negative Sentences

Active Voice:
He does not eat mangoes.
(તે કેરી ખાતો નથી.)

Passive Voice:
Mangoes are not eaten by him.
(કેરી તેના દ્વારા ખવાતી નથી.)

Active Voice:
They do not clean the house.
(તેઓ ઘર સાફ કરતા નથી.)

Passive Voice:
The house is not cleaned by them.
(ઘર તેમના દ્વારા સાફ કરવામાં આવતું નથી.)

Interrogative Sentences

Yes/No Type:

Active Voice:
Does she read books?
(શું તે પુસ્તકો વાંચે છે?)

Passive Voice:
Are books read by her?
(શું પુસ્તકો તેના દ્વારા વાંચવામાં આવે છે?)

Wh-Questions:

Active Voice:
Who writes the letter?
(પત્ર કોણ લખે છે?)

Passive Voice:
By whom is the letter written?
(પત્ર કોણે લખ્યો છે?)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1. Helping Verb (is/am/are) ભૂલથી ચૂકી ન જવાય.
   Wrong: The room cleaned by him.              
   Correct: The room is cleaned by him.         
2. Verb ના 3rd form નો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં ભૂલ ન કરવી.
   Wrong: The homework is do by the student.
   Correct: The homework is done by the student.                                                             
3. ‘by’ વાપરવો જ્યાં Subject ઉલ્લેખ કરવો જરૂરી હોય.

Practice Sentences

1. Convert the following into Passive Voice:
   • She waters the plants.
   • They do not finish the project.
   • Who solves this problem?                 
2. Convert the following into Active Voice:
   • The chairs are arranged by the staff.
   • The test is taken by the students.
